It’s the first time the NWS has issued a tornado watch for the Northeast since December 2016.
The National Hurricane Center issued a hurricane watch for southeastern Massachusetts Thursday morning, as well as for southern New Hampshire and southern New York.
The NHC said the center is still monitoring Hurricane Florence’s development and intensity, but it is unlikely to be able to make a final forecast on the storm’s path by Friday afternoon.
The storm is moving away from the Carolinas, but could be weakening further and heading toward the Atlantic.
